After taking last week off, the Chinook girls basketball team will return to action this weekend with the Northern B Divisional Tournament in Conrad. As the Sugarbeeters look to qualify for the Class B State Tournament, they will need to go on a deep run this week.
The Sugarbeeters will start the tournament today at 6 p.m. with a game against Fairview. The Warriors enter the tournament with an overall record of 9-13 and are coming off a third-place finish in the District 2B Tournament. As they look to beat Chinook, the Warriors will rely on Kallee Hopes and Carly Buxbaum to lead the way.
The Sugarbeeters qualified for the Northern B Divisional after finishing second at the District 1B Tournament, their first loss of the year dropping them to 20-1. As the Sugarbeeters look to go on a run, they will need top players such as Hallie Neibauer to get rolling.
If Chinook wins its tournament opener, it will face either Shelby or Malta, who play each other at 7:30 p.m. tonight. The Shelby Coyotes have a 13-9 record and they qualified for the tournament after taking fourth at the District 1B Tournament. As Shelby looks to go on a run, it will need Addison Richman and others to lead the way.
The Malta M-Ettes have a 13-7 record this season and they just won the District 2B Tournament. As the M-Ettes look to continue their successful postseason, they will need Neva Jacobson to continue her strong play.
The Northern B Divisional Tournament will begin today at 3 p.m. with a contest between Fairfield and Wolf Point. The Fairfield Eagles made it to the tournament with a 14-7 record and a first-place finish in the District 1B Tournament. This year, they have been led offensively by Emma Schenk.
The Wolf Point Wolves are 6-16 this year and they qualified for the tournament after taking fourth in the District 2B Tournament. If the Wolves are going to go on a run, they will rely on Keeley Blount-Henderson and Azalei Ackerman to lead the way.
The Northern B Divisional will continue today at 4:30 p.m. with a game between Conrad and Poplar. The Poplar Indians are 14-6 and are coming off a second-place finish in the District 2B Tournament. They have been led by the likes of Cammie Martel this season.
The Conrad Cowgirls just finished third in the District 1B Tournament and head into this weekend with an overall record of 10-2. Offensively, the Cowgirls have been led by Taylor Evans.
The top two teams at the end of this tournament will qualify for the Class B State Tournament. As the Sugarbeeters look to extend their season, they will need to play some of their best basketball of the season this weekend.
