James "Jim" Phillip Greytak, 74, was born Aug. 17, 1949, in Kalispell to Rosemary (Lowe) and Phillip Greytak of Bigfork, formerly of Havre. Jim passed away Feb. 4, 2024, after a valiant battle with cancer.
Jim graduated from Bigfork High School in 1967 and attended Carroll College, graduating with a degree in history in 1971.
He met his wife, Kathy Thoma, in 1974, and they got married in 1976. They had two children, Erin and Michael. Jim and his family spent their entire life in the same house that his father built in 1946 in Bigfork.
He worked at the U.S. Forest Service for 40 years. After retiring, Jim remained hard-working and kept busy. Jim's favorite pastimes were reading, listening to music, plowing out the neighbor's driveways, mowing the grass along Bridge Street and camping across the state of Montana.
Jim is survived by his wife of 47 years, Kathy; his daughter, Erin (Ed Bauer), grandsons, Flint and Kade of Stevensville; sister Marlyin (Pat Lee) of Kalispell; sister Joyce (Ron Hellman) of Havre, and nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
A celebration of life will be announced in the spring.
