MSU-N hoops regular season ends with losses at Carroll

The 2023-24 Frontier Conference regular season is in the books. But the final chapter didn't go the way the Montana State University-Northern basketball teams were hoping, as Northern was swept Saturday at Carroll College.

The Skylights lost to No. 8 Carroll College 83-53 in Helena.

 Ryley Kehr hit one of two free throws to end the first quarter down by one (17-16). The Fighting Saints held the Skylights to seven points in the second quarter to their 20. Carroll extended the lead in the second half to take the game.

The Skylights were led by Shyan Krass who had 12 points and five rebounds. Taya Trottier added nine points and five assists.

The Fighting Saints were led by Jamie Pickens who had 25 points and seven rebounds. Maddie Geritz added 16 points and nine rebounds.

The loss means Northern finished with a 5-10 record in the Frontier, and in fourth place overall. Northern will play Rocky Mountain College in the first round of the Frontier tourney this weekend in Great Falls.

The Lights also lost at Carroll Saturday. The Saints beat the Lights 87-78 in Helena.

The Fighting Saints took the lead early pushing the lead to 13 with 10:16 left in the first half. The Lights cut into the lead going into halftime 40-33. Northern was able to cut the lead to five in the second half, but Carroll pushed the lead to win the game.

The Lights were led by Zackry Martinez who had 21 points going 7-18 from the field. Dae'Kwon Watson went 50 percent from the three with 19 points.

  The Fighting Saints were led by Andrew Cook who had 21 points going 8-14 from the field. Kendall Moore added 21 points and five rebounds.

Northern finished the regular season with a 3-12 Frontier Conference record and will face the Providence Argos in the opening round of the Frontier tourney this weekend in Great Falls.
