Havre Cub Scout Sam Malley reached a singular honor this year, selling more Scout popcorn than anyone in the state.
Each fall, local Cub Scouts and ScoutBSA scouts sell popcorn as a fundraiser to support their scouting adventures. The local scouts are part of the Hi-Line District, which includes Liberty County, Hill County, Blaine County and the Northern part of Choteau County. The Hi-Line District is one of 12 districts that make up the Montana Council. All of these are part of the Boy Scouts of America program.
Cub Scout Sam Malley, of Pack 4426, was not only the top popcorn seller in the Hi-Line District but also the entirety of Montana. Sam sold a staggering $10,337. This was $104 more than runner up C.J. Simpson of the Lewis and Clark District out of Great Falls and $314.00 more than the third-place seller, Zachary Rubich of the Black Otter District out of Billings.
The previous year, which was Sam's first year in scouting, he was the Hi-Line District's top seller with more than $4,000 in sales. Thus, Sam as sold more than $14,000 in his first two years.
Sam is the son of the Jeremy and Lee Ann Malley. Cub Scout Pack 4426 is chartered by St. Jude Thaddeus Church.
