Above average temps, clear skies in Havre this week

A week of clear and relatively warm weather is on the horizon for the Havre area, though plenty of snow and ice remains from recent precipitation.

National Weather Service predicts that today's high will be 40 degrees with a low of 24, and mostly sunny skies.

Temperatures are expected to stay consistent with a high of 37 Wednesday, 40 Thursday, and 42 Friday and Saturday.

Lows will also stay consistent fluctuating between 21 and 26 across the week.

Skies are expected to be almost completely clear during the days, but cloudier during the nights.

Winds however, will vary more significantly, with a 10 to 17 mile per hour southwestern wind throughout today, with gusts of up to 26 miles per hour.

The Weather Service predicts those winds will die down to between 6 and 10 miles per hour Wednesday, but will pick back up Thursday to between 10 and 15 and gusts of up to 24 miles per hour.

Friday winds will pick up more, to between 15 and 22 miles per hour with gusts of up to 29 miles per hour.

Saturday will see the winds recede again, the Weather Service predicts, but may pick back up slightly Sunday.

Monday is listed as having a chance of rain and snow with a high near 40.

Some wintry weather in the past few months has left a snow cover.

Weather service reports that its recording station at the Havre City-County Airport recorded 8.6 inches of snow so far in February, with the normal value for Feb. 19 of 4.9 inches.

Since Dec. 1, Havre has received 22.5 inches of snow, just more than the norm for Feb. 19 of 22.1 inches.

Including area snowfall in the fall, the total since July 1 is 31.2 inches of snow, again just more than the normal value of 30.7 inches.

For precipitation, Weather Service has recorded .9 inches for February so far, more than three times the normal value of .27 inches.

Since January, Havre has seen 1.85 inches of precipitation with the normal value .7 inches.

For the water year, which starts Oct. 1, the recording station at the airport reports 3.97 inches of precipitation, also considerably higher than the normal value of 2.34 inches.
