In the final home game of the regular season, and on an emotional senior day, the Montana State University-Northern Skylights went out with a bang.
The Skylights beat Rocky Mountain College by a score of 72-61 Saturday in Havre.
The Skylights got off to a great start outscoring the Battlin' Bears 24-10 in the first quarter. The second quarter Rocky held Northern to six points to their 17 going into halftime 30-27. The third quarter was anyone's game, but Northern had a big fourth quarter outscoring the Bears 25-14.
The Skylights were led by Ryley Kehr who had 14 points going 4-7 from the field. Savannah Toms added 13 points and eight rebounds. Taya Trottier added 10 points with four assists.
Northern shot a field goal percentage of 49, 52 percent from the arc, and 90 percent from the free throw line as MSU-N improved to 5-8 in the Frontier Conference.
Senior Day didn't go as well for the MSU-Northern men.
The Lights lost against Rocky Mountain College 77-75 in the Armory Gymnasium.
The first half was anyone's game, until the Battlin' Bears made a 15-0 run to push the lead to 15 with 4:48 left in the first half. Rogan Barnwell hit a big three to cut the lead to eight going into halftime 46-38. Rocky kept a steady lead, as Northern came back within one with 3:34 left on the clock. A.J. Wilson hit two free throws for the Battlin' Bears to go up by two with :04 left. The Lights got a shot off, but couldn't get it to go in.
The Lights were led by Zackry Martinez who had 17 points and five assists. Xavier Bailey added 17 points and seven rebounds. Rogan Barnwell added 14 points.
The Battlin' Bears were led by Kael Robinson who went 5-5 from the three-point line with 28 points and nine rebounds. A.J. Wilson added 18 points and six rebounds. Luca Brooks added 13 points.
With the loss, Northern fell to 3-10 in conference play.
Both the Lights and Skylights travel to Great Falls to play Providence this Thursday night.
