9C girls basketball tourney underway

With the boys rolling on Wednesday, Thursday afternoon and evening was the girl's turn at the District 9C tournament inside the Havre High gymnasium.

In the girls opener, Turner edged Box Elder 46-43 to advance to the 9C semifinals tonight. In that game, the Tornadoes will take on top-seeded Chester-Joplin-Invernness for a berth in the championship and the Northern C Divisional. That game will tip off at 4 p.m. Box Elder will next play in a loser-out game Saturday morning.

In the second game of the girls tournament Thursday, the Fort Benton Lonhorns put on a defensive display in a 38-21 win over the North Star Knights.

The victory pushed the Longhorns into the second semifinal tonight where they'll square off against the Big Sandy Pioneers.

In the final game of the first round of the girls tournament Thursday, Big Sandy beat Hays-Lodge Pole 47-37. The Pioneers and Longhorns will meet tonight at 5:30 p.m. for a spot in the championship and a berth in next week's divisional tournament. HLP and North Star met in a loser-out game this morning.

The District 9C girls tournament runs through Saturday with the consolation game at 7 p.m. and the championship game at 8:30 p.m. at the Havre High gymnasium.
