April 30, 1928, to February 5, 2024
Our beloved Mom, Grandma and Nana, and Great-Grandma Edith Emma Anderson passed from this life of natural causes February 5th, 2024, in Havre, Montana, at the age of 95.
Edith was born on April 30, 1928, to John Oscar Gribble and Goldie Leigh Gribble in Glasgow, Montana. Her parents were homesteaders along the Missouri River near Wolf Point. They were farmers and ranchers with cattle, sheep, and horses along with a 2-acre garden that provided for many families during the Depression. Growing up with her 2 brothers, Amos and John, and sister, Ruby, Edith helped with the chores on the farm, and was a sheepherder to a flock of 250 sheep, with her own chuck wagon and sheep dog.
Edith eventually moved to Havre, where she has been a lifelong resident, and member of the First Lutheran Church.
Edith graduated from Havre High School, and worked as a telephone switchboard operator in the old Buttreys Department Store, while attending Nursing School at Northern Montana College, in Havre. She and several students lived in the Castle while going to college. She loved caring for people and thoroughly enjoyed her career as a Licensed Practical Nurse, working at both Sacred Heart and Deaconess Hospitals.
She met her future husband, Marvin Earl Anderson, at the VFW Hall where they enjoyed dancing and socializing with friends. Marvin was a Railroader for 47 years for the Great Northern as it was referred to at that time. He was an avid hunter, and loved to fish. They married on November 27th, 1948, and raised 2 daughters, Debbie and Roberta, and son, David.
The family took yearly summer vacations driving through Canada with their Terri Trailer in tow to Miracle Beach on Vancouver Island where they met up with her sister, Ruby Hockett, and her family from California for camping, fishing, boating, clamming with nightly campfires. Many great memories were made over the years, and Edith and Marvin were wonderful parents to their daughters and son!
Thirteen years ago, Edith chose to leave her home and move to the Eagles Manor to enjoy the companionship of the senior community where she enjoyed cards, Four Kings, Bingo, coffee time, holiday gatherings, and socializing with many of the residents.
Edith was a loving, kind, generous and courageous woman who loved her family, and the people she came to know in general. She touched the hearts of many families over the years by dedicating herself to helping those in need with housing in her rental properties, and much needed provisions throughout her life. She loved gardening, traveling, family, friends, playing cards, and telling great stories. Most of all, she loved being a mom, a grandma and Nana, and a great grandma who treasured her family. Many FaceTime calls throughout the years with her family members near and far brought her great joy.
Edith is preceded in death by her father, John Oscar Gribble, mother, Goldie Leigh Gribble, husband, Marvin Anderson, sister, Ruby Hockett, half-sister Florence Trebas, her brothers, Amos and John Gribble, and her son-in-laws, Joe Stubbs, and John Morelli.
She is survived by, and will be missed by her daughters, Roberta Anderson, Debbie Stubbs, her son, David Anderson, her grandsons Michael Morelli (and Kristine), Christopher Stubbs (and Mirna), her granddaughter Kaymee Anderson, her great grandsons, Alex Stubbs and Phoenix Stubbs, and her great granddaughter Renley Morelli.
A special thanks to Dr. Jerry Taylor, Verna Pattison, Keith Williamson, Mercedes and Kathy for the joy and kindness they brought to her life.
Edith will forever be in the hearts and minds of all who knew her as a woman of grace, strength and purpose until her final goodbyes to her loved ones. She passed peacefully from this life on February 5th, 2024, and will always be remembered and loved by all of her family and friends.
We will truly miss her presence every day, but believe as she does that she has joined her husband, Marvin, and her family in heaven where she is free of pain, very happy, and dancing once again with Marvin.
Cards can be sent to the Family of Edith Anderson, Eagles Manor, 20 W 3rd St., Apt 212, Havre MT 59501. You may choose to plant a tree in Edith's honor because she loved nature, or light a candle in remembrance of her beautiful purposeful life.
