Letter to the Editor - Daines all hat and no cattle on the border

We’ve all seen individuals that talk a big game, get themselves into a pickle at a bar, and then look to their friends to “hold them back” because they don’t have the guts to take care of business on their own. These folks always talk tough but never have the intestinal fortitude to back it up.

That sure sounds a lot like how politician Steve Daines acted this month with his “fake” outrage about the southern border of the USA.

We’ve all heard Daines moan, groan and whine about the border for years, bringing it up any time he got the chance.

Then, last week, when push came to shove with a viable bipartisan border bill, which would have addressed many of the serious issues occurring at the border — where was Sen. Daines? Running for the exit!

Border security is a real issue, senator. In fact, you might hear Montanans talking about it in small-town watering holes and diners you avoid across the state. The difference between those folks and yourself is that they’d have the courage to act on a viable solution if given the opportunity.

Instead, you chose to use the issue of border security as a political football and cave in to special interest pressure. We, as Montanans, did not send you to Congress to just talk, senator, but to act in our best interests. Sen. Steve Daines: All hat, no cattle!

It’s high time to take some notes and learn from your colleague, Jon Tester, and start fighting for all Montanans,, not just for what is politically expedient.
