The season came to an end for the Havre High wrestling teams as they competed in the Class A and Girls State Wrestling Tournaments in Billings. In their final action of the year, the HHS boys team finished eighth while the HHS girls finished 13th in their tournament.
As a team, the HHS boys team finished its tournament with 116 team points. Laurel won the Class A State Tournament with 192.5 team points while Sidney/Fairview came in second with 177 points and Lockwood took third with 156 points.
In their final tournament of the season, several Blue Ponies wrestled well. Tommy Lewis had the best finish for the Ponies as he finished second wrestling in the 285-pound weight class. He started the tournament with a pin against Tyler Conklin from Stevensville/Victor. Then in the quarterfinal, Lewis won a 5-0 decision against Frenchtown’s Austin Brush. In his semifinal match, Lewis pinned Beaudry Payne from Dillon/Twin Bridges/Sheridan.
At 152 pounds, Reinhard Bold finished third for the Ponies. He started the weekend with pins against Connor Benson from Libby/Troy and Billy Gustafson from Columbia Falls. Then in the consolation semifinals, Bold won an 11-1 major decision against Layne Alexander from Billings Central/Joliet. In the third-place match, Bold won a 9-1 major decision over Columbia Falls’ Winslow Peters.
Fellow Pony Reed Mantle finished fourth at 126 pounds. He started the weekend with a pin against Butte Central’s Devin Rossiter. Then in the consolation bracket, Mantle pinned Hamilton’s Camron Beall, Frenchtown’s Pita Fish and Ronan’s August Courville.
At 132 pounds, Matt Lemer finished fifth for the Ponies. He started the tournament with a pin against Corvallis’ Conner Jessop. Then in the consolation bracket, Lemer won an 8-3 decision against Polson’s Max Ramesar and then he won a 6-2 decision against Frenchtown’s Cole Johnson. In the fifth-place match, Lemer pinned Jessop once again.
Carson Harris also finished fifth as he wrestled at 138 pounds. He started his run by winning a 13-12 decision against Corvallis’ Ben White. In the consolation bracket, Harris pinned Ronan’s Jairyn Krause and then won a 7-1 decision against Frenchtown’s Jordan Warner. In the fifth-place match, Harris pinned Marley Erickson from Libby/Troy.
Pierce Caplette took fifth for the Ponies at 205 pounds. He started the weekend with a pin against Hamilton’s Clayton Beall. In the consolation bracket, Caplette won a 5-4 decision against Felix Zambergs from Bigfork and then pinned Hamilton’s Noah Guisinger. In the fifth-place match, Caplette pinned Thor Fulgham from Sidney/Fairview.
The HHS girls wrestling team scored 53 team points to finish 13th in its tournament. Billings Senior won the Girls State Wrestling Tournament with 236 team points while Ronan took second with 160.5 points and Miles City finished third with 103.5 team points.
Aliyah Stiffarm wrestled well for the Ponies as she took third at 235 pounds. She started her run with a pin against Reginia Phelan from Billings Skyview. In the consolation bracket, Stiffarm pinned Jess Elings from Cut Bank, Saige Kelly from Miles City and Maisie Barrus from Custer/Hysham. In the third-place match, Stiffarm pinned Evy Mackey from Billings West.
Fellow Pony Angelina Siebanaller finished sixth at 185 pounds. She started the weekend with a pin against Butte’s Rylle Radcliffe. In the consolation bracket, Siebanaller pinned Daijalin Sunchild from Big Sandy and then won a 1-0 decision against Tegan Boyce from Cut Bank.
With the State Wrestling Tournaments now in the books, the season has come to an end for the HHS wrestling teams. With several of these wrestlers returning, the Ponies will be looking to build off this year as they look to continue competing in Class A wrestling.
