Havre wrestling teams take 4th, 5th to end regular season

In their final competition of the regular season, the Havre High wrestling teams competed well at the Malta Tournament. The HHS boys team took fifth in its tournament while the HHS girls finished fourth to end the weekend.

The HHS boys wrestling team scored 88 total points to take fifth in its tournament. Choteau took first in the tournament with 163.5 total points while Billings Central finished second and Glasgow took third. In their final competition of the regular season, several Blue Ponies wrestled well.

Reed Mantle took first as he wrestled in the 132-pound weight class. He started his run with pins against Circle’s Colten Bank and Wolf Point’s Rieley Reese. Then in the first-place match, Mantle pinned Fletcher Anderson from Chinook.

At 285 pounds, Tommy Lewis finished first for the Ponies. In the semifinal, Lewis pinned Kirkallen Hoskins from Billings Central. Then in the title match, Lewis pinned Chinook’s Julian Powell.

Grady Haney took second wrestling at 126 pounds for the Ponies. He started his weekend by winning a 6-2 decision against Big Sandy’s Garrett LeFurgey. Then in the semifinal, Haney pinned Jesse Gebhardt from Choteau.

Aiden Shandorff finished third at 145 pounds. He started the weekend by pinning Roundup’s Aurelien Seyler. Then in the consolation bracket, Shandorff pinned Karson Kelsey from Malta/Whitwater, Griffen Crowley from Chinook and Trey Bazaldua from Billings Central. Then in the third-place match, Shandorff pinned Bryce Becker from Circle. Fellow Pony Rowdy Doney finished fourth for the Ponies at 182 pounds.

In the Malta Girls Tournament, the HHS girls wrestling team finished fourth with 26 total points. Choteau finished first in the tournament with 59 total points while Glasgow took second and Wolf Point finished third.

At 120 pounds, Brooklyn Wilting finished second for the Ponies. She started the weekend with a pin against Keelie Mckinney-Bruner from Roundup. She then won an 8-0 major decision against A.J. Marquis from Malta/Whitewater. Wilting continued to wrestle well with a pin against Raeli Morel from Choteau. Wilting then ended the weekend with a win by forfeit against Cierra Norton from Circle.

Fellow Pony Allyson Kaul finished fifth at 107 pounds thanks to a pin against Kialayla Villovuz from Wolf Point.

The HHS wrestling teams will now begin the postseason with the Eastern A Divisional Tournament, which starts this weekend in Hardin.
