Havre businesses are being advised to inspect cash they are being handed, as there has been spate of calls in the city about receiving “Motion Picture” money, which was passed off as real cash.
The Havre Police Department announced on Facebook Wednesday that they had received a number of calls from local businesses saying they had been given this counterfeit money and requested that everyone be on the lookout.
Havre Police Chief Matosich said the bills are clearly labeled as prop money, the kind of thing used in movies, and that as long as people are looking out for it, the label is pretty easy to spot.
This morning’s police dipatch log listed summons being issued for Jaime Lynn Windyboy, 41, and Gerald James Lightfoot, 56, both of Havre, on charges of theft for using fake bills Wednesday.
The department asked anyone who receives counterfeit money to call the department at 406-265-4361.
This is the second warning the department has put out in as many months about counterfeit money circulating Havre.
In early December, the department warned about fake Havre Area Chamber of Commerce Gift Certificates that were going around, a case Matosich said looks like it might be resolved soon.
He said there are still some procedural hurdles to get over, but they’ve made progress in finding the person responsible for the forgeries and he hopes the case will be closed soon.
