Havre wrestling takes eighth at Class A Duals

As the Havre High boys wrestling team gets ready for the postseason, it will be looking to use its last few competitions of the regular season to prepare. In Butte this past weekend, the Blue Ponies competed against some of the schools they will face in the postseason. Against this competition, the Ponies finished eighth in the dual tournament.

The Ponies began the weekend in pool play, which they opened with a 48-24 dual victory over Bigfork. After falling behind 18-0, Havre's Grady Haney cut the deficit to 18-6 when he won by forfeit in the 126-pound weight class. Matt Lemer then cut the deficit to 18-12 when he won by forfeit at 132 pounds.

At 138 pounds, Isaiah Otto pinned Michael Mccarty to tie the dual. Tristan Stygles then pinned Jerin Coles at 145 pounds to give Havre a 24-18 lead. In the next two matches, Reinhard Bold pinned Wyatt Elwell at 160 pounds and Landen Caplette won by forfeit at 170 pounds to stretch the lead to 36-18.

At 182 pounds, Pierce Caplette pinned Evan Tidwell to make it a 42-18 lead. After Bigfork won a match to cut into Havre's lead, Tommy Lewis pinned Holland Jantzen at 285 pounds to make the final score, 48-24, in Havre's favor.

Havre continued pool play with a 54-12 victory over Butte Central. After Havre fell behind, 6-0, Haney tied the dual when he won by forfeit at 126 pounds. At 132 pounds, Lemer gave Havre the lead when he pinned Devin Rossiter. Harris then stretched Havre's lead to 18-6 when he pinned James Holmes.

Over the next two matches, Tristan Stygles and Bold both won by forfeit to extend the lead to 30-6. After a double forfeit at 160 pounds, Landen Caplette, Pierce Caplette, Brandon Healy and Lewis all won by forfeit to extend the lead to 54-6. Butte Central won the final match to make the final score 54-12.

The Ponies then suffered a 42-30 loss to Sidney/Fairview in pool play. After falling behind 3-0, Havre took a 6-0 lead when Harris pinned Kayden Bousquet at 138 pounds. After Sidney won a match, Bold pinned Jason Sorteberg to give Havre a 12-9 lead.

Sidney won a match and Havre responded with Lewis pinning Caleb Kleinke to take a 30-21 lead. However, Sidney won the last four matches of the dual to take home the 42-30 victory.

Havre finished pool play with a 48-25 win over Corvallis. The Ponies took a 12-0 lead to start the dual as Haney pinned Boone Venema and Lemer pinned Conner Jessop. After a Corvallis win, Tristan Stygles pinned Kade Bowles and Bold pinned Caston Borkholder to give Havre a 24-3 lead.

Now in the championship bracket, Havre continued to roll by defeating Hardin 54-15. Tucker Stygles started the dual by pinning Landon Orthman and then Austin Velk won by forfeit to give Havre a 12-0 lead.
