It was a tough homecoming for the Montana State University-Northern basketball teams.
On Thursday night in Havre, the MSU-Northern men suffered a defeat at the hands of the Providence Argos, 76-66.
The Lights fell behind 38-31 in the first 20 minutes and just couldn't catch up as the Argos shot 50 percent from the field and got 17 points each from Jaylin Reed and Davien-Harris Williams.
Zackary Martinez scored a game-high 18 points for the Lights, who well to 1-3 in the Frontier Conference.
Also on Thursday night, the MSU-Northern women fell to the Argos in the Armory Gymnasium.
The Skylights lost against No. 16 Providence by a score of 69-55 in Havre. The Argo's held the Skylights to 18 points going into half to their 37. Providence pushed the lead to 25 in the beginning of the third half. The Skylights cut the lead to 15 at the end of the third quarter. Northern was able to cut into the lead to 11, but couldn't get the win.
The Skylights were led by Savannah Toms who had 15 points and nine rebounds. Jalen Callender added 12 points going 50 percent from the field. Taya Trottier had four steals and six assists.
The Argo's were led by Ashlee Maldonado who had 20 points and nine rebounds. Monique Carter added 16 points going 6-16 from the field. Keanna Salave'a had a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.
With the loss, Northern dropped to 2-2 in the Frontier Conference.
The Skylights and Lights will head to Carroll College on Saturday.
