In its first two games of the new year, the Havre High boys basketball team had to go on the road to face Hardin and Miles City this past weekend. Despite the miles, the Blue Ponies rolled as they defeated Hardin, 96-59, and then beat Miles City, 88-57.
The Ponies started their weekend this past Friday with their 96-59 win on the road at Hardin. Hardin tried to keep pace early as the Ponies only held a 22-16 lead to end the first quarter. But the Ponies took control in the second to take a 44-27 lead into halftime.
In the third quarter, the Ponies continued to play well as they began to pull away to take a 66-46 lead into halftime. With the big lead in the final frame, the Ponies cruised to the big win to open the new year.
The Ponies stayed hot Saturday in their 88-57 conference win on the road against Miles City. The Ponies got going early as they raced out to a 19-9 lead. The Ponies stayed hot in the second quarter to take a 42-25 lead into halftime.
With the big lead in the second half, the Ponies cruised to the win to start 1-0 in the Northeast A and improve to 7-1 overall this season. Kash Keller got hot for the Ponies with 20 points while other contributors for the Ponies include Tre Gary with 18 points and Jackson Headdress with 11 points.
The HHS boys basketball team will next play on the road against Glendive Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
