Havre wrestling wins Cut Bank Invite

With the postseason just a month away, the Havre High wrestling teams are looking to get rolling and be at their best. So in their first tournament of 2024, both the HHS boys and girls wrestling teams finished first in the Cut Bank Invite this past weekend.

The HHS boys team finished first in its tournament as it scored 259 total points. Conrad came in second with 179 points and Lincoln County took third with 169 points. The Blue Ponies were led to their first-place finish thanks to the performances of several wrestlers.

In the 126-pound weight class, Reed Mantle finished first for the Ponies. He started his run with a pin against Thomspon Falls’ Diego Long. He then pinned Gavin Schrenk from Plains-Hot Springs. In the semifinals, Mantle won a 9-2 decision against Conrad’s Blaine VanDyke. In the championship match, Mantle won a 3-0 decision against Lincoln County’s Blake Lancaster.

Matt Lemer also took first as he wrestled at 132 pounds. He started the weekend with pins against Valier’s Shawn McCormick and Lewistown’s Brian Blackadar. Lemer then won an 11-3 major decision against CMR’s Eli Harrell and then won by medical forfeit over Jefferson’s Dayton Brown. In the first-place match, Lemer won by forfeit over CMR’s Landon De La Garza.

At 152 pounds, Reinhard Bold took first for the Ponies. He first pinned Shelby’s Ryland Larson and then won a 15-0 technical fall against Harlem’s Leon Champagne. Bold kept winning with a 10-5 decision against Malta’s Straud Sims and with a pin against Superior’s Lucas Kovalsky. In the title match, Bold pinned John Waterbury from Plains-Hot Springs.

Another champion for the Ponies was Tommy Lewis who wrestled at 285 pounds. He started the weekend with pins against Chinook’s Julian Powell and Jefferson’s Kolbe Michaud. In the semifinals, Lewis won a 3-0 decision against Conrad’s Trapper Kinamon. In the first-place match, Lewis pinned Superior’s Jaxson Green.

Many other Ponies placed during the tournament. Carson Harris finished second wrestling at 138 pounds. He started the tournament with pins against Valier’s Chantz Connelly and Malta’s Trooper Stiles. In the semifinals, Harris pinned Beau Crabb from Plains-Hot Springs.

Tristian Stygles also finsiehd second for Havre at 145 pounds. He first won a 16-5 major decision against CMR’s Teagan Dixon. He then pinned Shelby’s Evan Clarke and Harlem’s Joe Arensmayer. In the semifinals, Stygles won a 15-0 technical fall against Jefferson’s Cooper Mikesell.

At 132 pounds, Isaiah Otto finished third for Havre. He started his run with pins against Cascade’s Peyton Johnson and Darby’s Connor Quinn. He then pinned Fairfield’s Sloan Giles. In a consolation match, Otto won a 14-3 major decision against Lincoln County’s Ayden Helgert. In the third-place match, Otto won a 6-3 decision against CMR’s Ransom Hinojosa.

Tucker Stygles finished sixth at 103 pounds for Havre. In consolation matches, Stygles pinned Collin Boland from Great Falls, won a 16-6 major decision against Jefferson’s Spencer Abbott and pinned Chinook’s Eyan Hofeldt.

Landen Capllete also took sixth as he wrestled at 170 pounds. He started the tournament with a pin against Thompson Falls’ Rowan Ackley and then won a 10-5 decision against David Chapman from Plains-Hot Springs.

The HHS girls team finished first with 101 total points in its tournament. Conrad finished second with 98 total points and Cut Bank took third with 93.5 total points. Over the weekend, several Ponies wrestled well to lead the team to first.

Angelina Siebanaller finished first for the Ponies at 185 pounds. In the semifinals, she pinned Heart Butte’s Bella Weasel Head. In the championship match, Siebanaller won a 5-1 decision against Cut Bank’s Tegan Boyce.

McKenna Caplette took second at 114 pounds. In the tournament, she pinned Harlem’s Cyla Adams and Lincoln County’s Ayla Marsh. At 235 pounds, Aliyah Stiffarm finished second for the Ponies. She pinned Cut Bank’s Jess Elings and then pinned Fort Benton’s Josephine Manning in the tournament.

At 120 pounds, Brooklyn Wilting finished fifth for Havre. In consolation matches, Wilting pinned Jefferson’s Maysa LaFromboise and pinned Fort Benton’s Taryn Reid. In the fifth-place match, Wilting won by forfeit against Shelby’s Ellie Munson.

At 145 pounds, Paloma Padilla finished fifth for Havre. In the quarterfinals, Padilla pinned Thompson Falls’ Alayna Hockhalter. In the fifth-place match, Padilla pinned Malta’s Samme Gibbs.

At 126 pounds, Brooke Nelson finished sixth for Havre. She first pinned Fort Benton’s Zoe Donner and then won by forfeit against Cascade’s Mady Falzinski in a consolation match. In another consolation match, Nelson pinned Cut Bank’s Issabelle Salois.

The HHS wrestling teams will next compete in the Ronan Triangular this Thursday at 4 p.m. and then the Rocky Mountain Classic in Missoula this weekend.
