National Weather Service issues High Winds Warning

Temperatures plummet as winds rise through the week

The National Weather Service has issued a High Winds Warning for Tuesday as Havre starts a week of plummeting temperatures and high chances of snow, the area's unseasonable warmth appearing to come to an end.

National Weather Service in Great Falls put out a warning this morning to central, north-central and southwest Montana saying there will likely be winds of between 35 and 45 miles per hour with gusts of up to 65 miles per hour between noon and midnight Tuesday.

The warning says travel could be difficult, particularly for high profile vehicles and people should be extremely cautious.

"People are urged to secure loose objects that could be blown around or damaged by the wind," the warning said.

Havre specifically is predicted to get winds between 23 and 33 miles per hour, with gusts as high as 50 miles per hour after noon that day, decreasing to between 17 and 22 miles per hour after midnight, though gusts could remain as high at 43 miles per hour.

Wind speeds are expected to vary across the affected area of Montana.

As for temperatures and precipitation, National Weather Service reports that Havre got just under two inches of snow, though some of the surrounding areas only got around one inch.
