Marjie was born on April 16, 1940, in Havre, Montana, to Kathryn E. Gibson and Warren Francis Bailey. Tragically, her father passed away in 1945, when Marjie was just 5 years old. In 1947, her mother remarried Robert Ami Durkee, who adopted Marjie that same year, bringing her into his loving family.
Marjie grew up in Havre and, after her marriage to Ben Spinler on September 9, 1958, moved to Hingham, where they began farming together. It was there that they raised their three children, Nancy, Greg, and KayCee. Marjie's family was her greatest joy, and her love for them was boundless.
Marjie was a proud homemaker and dedicated herself to her family. She was involved in her community, most notably with the Women in Farm Economics (W.I.F.E.), and was passionate about supporting youth sports. A talented bowler, Marjie coached junior bowling from 1969 until her youngest child graduated high school in 1989. She continued to bowl in women's and mixed doubles leagues until her 60s and attended 27 Women's National Bowling Tournaments, a testament to her competitive spirit and love for the game.
In her later years, Marjie pursued her interest in beauty and became a licensed nail technician, working in Havre for about 10 years. She and Ben also discovered a love for golf in their 50s and played regularly until arthritis made it difficult for her to hold onto her clubs after Ben's passing.
Marjie cherished the summers she spent at the family cabin in Glacier. Although she initially disliked the mountains and had hoped for a house on the lake, she came to embrace the beauty of the cabin, which had been purchased by her parents when she was just 16. It became a place of great significance to her, filled with laughter, relaxation, and the love of family.
Marjie is remembered for her kindness, her dedication to those she loved, and her vibrant spirit. She was a woman of many talents, always giving her time and energy to the people and causes she cared about. Her legacy will live on through her children, grandchildren, and the countless lives she touched.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ben Spinler, who passed away in November 2009; her sister, Kathryn Marilyn Gerard, who passed away in 2001; her mother, Kathryn E. Gibson, who passed away in October 1986; and her father, Robert Durkee, who passed away in 1997.
Marjie is survived by her children, Nancy (Tom Sroczyk) Collick, Greg (Rose) Spinler, and KayCee Adams. She was also a devoted grandmother to five grandchildren, Ryan (Jessica) Collick, Paige (Zach) McGrath, Quinn (Megan) Spinler, Gavin (Hannah Grebstad) Spinler, and Jessica Adams, all of whom she adored.
