Skylights lose three tough games in Arizona

Last week was a tough one for the Montana State University-Northern women’s basketball team, as the Skylights dropped three games in Arizona.

Last Friday, Northern fell to Jessup University (11-1 on the season) with a score of 65-61 in Phoenix, Arizona. The Warriors led in the first quarter with a last second shot 16-14. Jessup outscored the Skylights to extend the lead going into halftime 31-25. The Skylights got off to a cold start in the third quarter, as they got outscored 20-13. Northern battled back cutting the lead to three with five seconds left. The Warriors hit their free throws to take the game.

The Skylights were led by Shyan Krass who had 14 points and seven rebounds. Jalen Callender added 11 points and four assists. Ryley Kehr added 10 points.

In game two of Northern’s trip to Phoenix, the Skylights lost against Menlo College by a score of 87-58 in. The Oaks got off to a great start going 16-0 and outscoring the Skylights 27-11 in the first half. Menlo extended the lead going into halftime 44-20 and further extended the lead in the second half to take the game.

The Skylights were led by Savannah Toms who had 11 points and eight rebounds. Ryley Kehr added 10 points going 4-6 from the field.

Northern opened the week with a loss to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical by a score of 63-56 in Phoenix. The Eagles ended the first quarter 8-3 to take the lead 18-13. The Skylights outscored Embry-Riddle 11-7 in the second quarter to go down by one going into halftime. The Eagles had a steady lead, as the Jalen hit a three to cut the lead to four with 3:08 left. The Eagles were able to keep a lead to win the game.

The Skylights were led by Jalen Callender, who went 5-7 from the behind the arc with 17 points. Rachel Van Blaricom and Savannah Toms added nine points each. Shyan Krass led the team in rebounds with seven.

The trio of defeated left MSU-N with an overall record of 4-7 heading into this week’s home games against Amrbose University on Thursday and Lakeland University on Saturday.
