Havre High basketball looks to stay hot

Both Havre High boys and girls basketball teams are off to hot starts this season. And in their final action of the 2023, both Blue Pony squads will look to keep playing well when they face Browning and Laurel to end the week.

The HHS boys basketball team will face Browning on the road tonight. The Browning Indians should be a tough opponent as they are off to a 3-1 start this season. The Ponies will then return home to face Laurel at Havre High Gymnasium Friday. The Laurel Locomotives are off to a 2-3 start this year, but they have players who could give Havre some trouble.

Tristian Appleton should lead the way offensively for the Locomotives as he is averaging 14.2 points a game on 33.7 percent shooting from the field. On the boards, Cody Dennis will look to give Havre some headaches as he is averaging 7.8 rebounds a contest this winter.

Though the Ponies are 4-1, and they will need their best players to do well this week in order to improve that record.

Tre Gary is off to a hot start averaging 18 points a game on 51.8 percent shooting from the field and 90 percent shooting from the free-throw line. Shane Patacsil can also make an impact offensively as he is averaging 12.8 points a game this season.

The HHS girls basketball team also has a couple games this week to wrap up 2023. The Ponies play tonight at home against the Browning Indians, who are off to a 3-2 start this season. The Ponies will be looking to limit Browning's best players in Jerel White Grass and Teslin Trombley. Then Friday, the Ponies will host Laurel to wrap up the week. The Laurel Locomotives come into the game with a 2-2 record.

The Ponies, with their 4-0 start, will be looking to stay undefeated heading into 2024. If they are going to do that, they will need players such as Ariana Gary and Amaya Jarvis to play well and lead them to victory.
