Gopher awarded for work with domestic violence survivors

Havre Police Officer Taylor Gopher was presented the inaugural Domestic Violence Awareness Award Thursday by the Hill County Attorney's Office for his outstanding work assisting survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking.

After presenting him the award, Hill County Attorney Lacey Lincoln said Gopher was nominated by an anonymous community member for his role in assisting a survivor of domestic violence while off duty, treating them with dignity and respect.

A press release from Lincoln's office said the nominator referred to Gopher as a "saving grace" and mentioned that his calm and welcoming demeanor allowed them to feel safe.

At the presentation Gopher said he was glad to be part of a team that does its best to serve and safeguard the community, and to be part of a community that recognizes these efforts.

Gopher has been working with the Havre Police Department since 2020 and is now an acting sergeant and the department's K9 handler.

"During Officer Gopher's time with the Havre Police Department, the Hill County Attorney's Office has recognized Officer Gopher's passion for his work and genuine care for those in need," the office's press release said. "His individual contributions highlight the power of an officer's positive impact in their community."

Lincoln said her office hopes to make the presentation of this award a yearly one.
