Havre wrestling gets season started

This past weekend, the Havre High wrestling teams got their season started with the Havre Invite at Havre High Gymnasium. In their first action of the season, several Blue Ponies performed well and placed in their brackets.

In the boys 126-pound weight class, Grady Haney finished first for the Ponies. He started his run with a pin against Chinook's Kegan Green. In his semifinal match against Cut Bank's Bridger Molenda, Haney won with a 10-0 major decision. In the title match, Haney pinned Butte Central's Devin Rossiter to take first.

Havre's Reed Mantle also finished first wrestling at 132 pounds. He started the tournament with pins against Cut Bank's Kellan Cassidy and Chinook's Fletcher Anderson. In the title match, Mantle won by fall against his teammate Isaiah Otto.

Fellow Pony Reinhard Bold placed first in the boys 152-pound bracket. He started his run with pins against Lane Salveson from Malta/Whitewater and Kyler Anderson from Chester-Joplin-Inverness. In the first-place match, Bold won in a 15-6 major decision against Cut Bank's Kanon Branch.

Another first-place finisher was Tommy Lewis, who wrestled at 285 pounds. In his semifinal match, Lewis pinned Butte Central's Jonathan Cox. Then in the title match, Lewis pinned his teammate Brandon Healy.

Pierce Caplette took home first place for Havre as he wrestled at 205 pounds. He started the tournament with a pin against Chinook's Julian Powell and then pinned Lewistown's Jack Pallett to secure the first-place finish.

For the Havre girls, Aliyah Stiffarm finished first wrestling at 235 pounds. In her semifinal match, Stiffarm pinned Jess Elings from Cut Bank. Then in the first-place match, Stiffarm won by fall against Cut Bank's Haylee Fetters.

Many other Ponies placed over the weekend. At 103 pounds, Tucker Stygles took second as he won by fall against Chinook's Eyan Hofeldt. Isaiah Otto also finished second for Havre wrestling at 132 pounds. In the tournament, Otto pinned Lewistown's Tucker Stewart and Cut Bank's Ray Dagel.

Carson Harris finished second at 145 pounds for Havre. He first pinned Malta/Whitewater's Karson Kelsey and then won a 5-1 decision against Lewistown's Jake Simac. His teammate Tristan Stygles took second at 160 pounds as he pinned Cut Bank's Austin Brotnov and Chinook's Owen Davies. Fellow Pony Brandon Healy took second at 285 pounds thanks to a pin against Cut Bank's Noah Calerich and an 11-5 decision against his teammate Mason Wilting.

On the girls side, Brooklyn Wilting finished second at 120 pounds thanks to a pin against Lewistown's Grace Hicks. In the 132-145 pounds bracket, Poloma Padilla finished second as she pinned Samme Gibbs from Malta/Whitewater.

At 113 pounds, Austin Velk finished third for the Havre boys team. His teammate Max Holdorff also finished third at 120 pounds as he won an 8-4 decision against Butte Central's Jack Holmes. Mason Wilting finished third at 285 pounds as he pinned Cut Bank's Calerich.

On the girls team, Brooke Nelson placed third at 126 pounds thanks to a pin against Cut Bank's Isabella Salois. Angelina Siebanaller took third at 235 pounds as she pinned Cut Bank's Tegan Boyce in both the quarterfinal and the third-place match.

On the boys team, Aiden Shandorff finished fourth at 152 pounds. He first pinned CJI's Jadon Sullivan and then pinned Salveson from Malta/Whitewater in a consolation match. Landen Caplette finished fourth at 182 pounds as he pinned his teammate Rowdy Doney and then won an 8-1 decision against his other teammate Jacek Lickfold.

In the girls 120-pound bracket, McKenna Caplette finished fourth for the Ponies. In the boys 182-pound bracket, Lickfold won an 11-1 major decision over Cut Bank's Payton Volkman to take sixth place.

The HHS boys wrestling team will continue the season with the Butte Central Mixer and then the Mining City Duals this weekend in Butte. The HHS girls wrestling team will compete in the Flathead Girls Duals and the Flathead Girls Invite in Kalispell this weekend.
