HHS wrestling looking to compete this winter

It is a new season for the Havre High wrestling teams. After the HHS boys team took sixth in the state tournament and the HHS girls team finished 10th in its state tournament, the Blue Ponies will look to stay competitive as a program this winter.

The Ponies return several wrestlers from last year's squad. Tristan Stygles returns for his senior season after winning an individual state championship last winter. Reinhard Bold and Matt Lemer are other returning wrestlers who will look to pick up where they left off last year. Bold finished second at state while Lemer took third in his final competition of the season.

The HHS girls wrestling team will also see the return of other strong wrestlers. Clara Laird returns for her senior year after taking second at last year's state tournament. Aliyah Stiffarm will also return as she looks to improve on her sixth-place finish at last year's state tournament.

These wrestlers and the rest of the Ponies will begin the season this weekend with the Havre Mixer and the Havre Invite right here in Havre. The following weekend, the Ponies will head on the road for the Butte Central Mixer and the Mining City Duals in Butte.

From Dec. 8 through 9, the HHS girls wrestling team will head to Kalispell to wrestle in the Flathead Girls Duals and the Flathead Girls Invite. Dec. 15 and 16, the HHS boys wrestling team will get back in action with the CMR Holiday Classic in Great Falls. The Ponies will close out the year Dec. 22 with the Sidney Quad.

The Ponies will open the new year Jan. 2 with a road dual against Glasgow. Later that week, the Ponies will compete in the Cut Bank Invite. On Jan. 11, the HHS wrestling team will compete against Libby and Ronan in the Ronan Triangular. The next two days, the Ponies will wrestle in the Rocky Mountain Classic in Missoula.

From Jan. 19 through 20, the Ponies head to Butte to compete in the Class A Duals. On Jan. 25, the Ponies will host CMR and Great Falls for a pair of duals and their senior night. The Ponies then close out the regular season with the Malta Invite Jan. 27.

HHS wrestling will begin the postseason with the Eastern A Divisional Tournament in Hardin from Feb. 2 through 3. The Ponies will then head to Billings for the Class A State Tournament at the Metra. While the state tournament is the ultimate goal, the Ponies have a long season ahead of them where they will look to compete in Class A wrestling.
