Highland Park Winter Book Fair set to run today through Saturday

Dinosaur Christmas, appearance by Santa, bake sale also set at the mall

Among the holiday events being held at the Holiday Village Mall this week and weekend is Highland Park Early Primary School's Winter Book Fair from today through Saturday.

Highland Park Principal Hayley Criner said the event is run by the school's Parent-Teacher Organization and raises funds for their library, so any support they get will promote reading for children in the area.

"We appreciate their support and helping us get books in kids' hands," Criner said. "That's always a good thing."

She said the event will be in the former Famous Footwear Location in the Holiday Village Mall and will run from 3 to 6 p.m. today, 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, with a wide variety of books for youth in the area across many genres.

"If you have a kiddo in the school system, I'm sure you will be able to find something that they would be interested in," she said.

She said she wants to thank the PTO as well as everyone in the school system that helps make the event happen and the support that it brings to the library.

Criner said the event is set to run in conjunction with a number of other events going on in the Holiday Village Mall this weekend. Indeed, the community's holiday celebrations are set to continue with a number of events at the mall in the coming days.

Saturday the mall will see the return of a new and extended Dinosaur Christmas courtesy of the H. Earl Clack Memorial Museum at their former location at the Holiday Village Mall from 1 to 4 p.m., an event for children that is expanding this year

"Dec. 2 is going to be a busy day up at Holiday Village," she said. " ... Come on down and enjoy some local history and prehistory."

This year the Dinosaur Christmas will have their dinosaur egg excavation, a dinosaur photo board, holiday ornament making, facepainting and cookie decorating, as well as a couple of volunteers in dinosaur costumes handing out candy canes and other holiday treats.

Cookies and Books with Santa will also be at the Holiday Village Mall at 2 p.m. with the jolly old elf himself.

The Havre Elks Lodge will also be hosting a bake sale that day at the mall from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., or whenever they are sold out, to support the third grade dictionary program.
