BLM's Coal Banks Landing, James Kipp Recreation Area close for winter season

Press release

The Coal Banks Landing Campground and James Kipp Recreation Area will close for the winter season, starting Friday, Dec. 1, according to Bureau of Land Management officials at the Upper Missouri River Breaks National Monument.

The campgrounds, along with the day-use areas, including launch ramps and restroom facilities, will be inaccessible throughout the winter closure.

"The boat launch and other facilities there aren't safe or accessible for recreation and are closed until safer conditions resume in spring," said Zane Fulbright, Upper Missouri River Breaks National Monument manager.

Both Coal Banks and James Kipp campgrounds are slated to reopen April 1, 2024.

For more information on safe access to the monument during the winter, people can call the Missouri Breaks Interpretive Center at 406-622-4000.
