Over the weekend, the Montana State University-Northern men's basketball team competed against Corban University and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Helena. The trip down south yielded mixed results as the Lights suffered a 63-60 loss to Corban but rebounded with a 78-59 win over Embry-Riddle.
The Lights began the weekend with their loss to Corban on Friday. The Lights fell behind early as they trailed, 29-22, at halftime. The Lights played better in the second half, but they were not able to close the gap as Corban held on for the win.
Dae'Kwon Watson led the Lights with 16 points as he shot 7-for-12 from the field and 2-for-6 from the 3-point line. Myles Dalton chipped in with 13 points while Zackry Martinez recorded ten points and four assists in the losing effort. As a team, the Lights shot 41.4 percent from the field and 31 percent from deep.
Looking to recover from their loss, the Lights played much better on Saturday against Embry-Riddle. The Lights got rolling early as they took a 41-18 lead into the halftime break. In the second half, the Lights cruised to victory to close their trip to Helena.
Martinez led the Lights with 15 points as he shot 6-for-10 from the field and 3-for-6 from deep. Dalton played well with 13 points while Watson recorded 12 points for the Lights. Xavier Bailey led the Lights with 11 rebounds and five assists. As a team, the Lights shot 52 percent from the field and 54.2 percent from deep.
The Lights are now 5-2 on their season and have now won three of their last four games. The MSU-N men's basketball team will now take a break before playing Concordia University of Edmonton at Armory Gymnasium on Dec. 2 at 4 p.m.
