The Montana State University-Northern football team started the season with a rousing win over Mayville State. Now, the Lights hope to end 2023 the same way.
The Lights (0-9, 1-9) will close out the fall with a Frontier Conferencece road game Saturday at Rocky Mountain College. It's a rare second meeting with the Battlin' Bears as the two teams met in a non-conference game, which the Bears won 47-0 back in September in Havre.
That loss to Rocky, which comes in at 3-4 in the Frontier and 5-4 overall, started a ninny-game losing streak for the Lights, one they're hoping to stop Saturday.
To do that, though, Northern will have to try and slow up an RMC offense that scored 52 points in a blowout win over Arizona Christian last Saturday. That puts the pressure on the likes of Dylan Wampler and others to try and hold the Bears in check.
On the other side of the ball, Northern will try and finish strong, as the Lights average less than 7 points and 100 yards of offense per game.
Head coach Jerome Souers' young team is also hopping to use Saturday's game as a springboard for next season. The game between the Bears and Lights will kick off at noon Saturday in Billings.
