Skylights begin postseason with Frontier Conference Tournament

The postseason is here for the Montana State University-Northern volleyball team. As they head into the Frontier Conference Tournament in Great Falls this weekend, the Skylights will look to go on a run and win their conference.

The Skylights will begin the tournament today with a match against Montana Western. The Bulldogs are the No. 4 seed in the tournament after going 5-5 in the Frontier Conference with an overall record of 18-6. During the regular season, the Bulldogs defeated the Skylights in both of their two meetings.

The Skylights will serve as the tournament's No. 5 seed after going 4-6 in the Frontier Conference with an overall record of 12-13 this fall. If they want to go on a run this weekend, the Skylights will need their best players to perform well.

Alana Graves will look to continue her strong season as she leads the Skylights with 300 kills and 64 total blocks this fall. Emily Feller will look to make an impact as she leads the team with 595 total assists this season. Baily Egan will look to continue playing reliable defense as she leads the team with 504 total digs this year.

If the Skylights defeat Montana Western to open the tournament, they would face No. 1 seed Montana Tech. The Orediggers clinched a bye to open the tournament as they went 8-2 in the Frontier Conference with an overall record of 22-4. However, the Skylights split their season series, 1-1, against the Orediggers.

On the other side of the bracket, Rocky Mountain College and Carroll College will face each other to open the tournament. Rocky Mountain will be the No. 3 seed after a finish of 6-4 in the Frontier Conference with an overall record of 18-11. Carroll College will be the No. 6 seed after going 0-10 in conference play with an overall record of 5-21.

The winner of that match will face the University of Providence, who earned a bye as the No. 2 seed in the tournament. The Argonauts went 7-3 in conference play and had an overall record of 15-10.

The semifinal matches will be later today at 5 and 7 p.m. The championship match will then be Saturday at 2 p.m. If the Skylights want to go on a run and take home a conference title, they will need to play their best volleyball of the season.

The MSU-N volleyball team began the Frontier Conference Tournament today at the Four Seasons Arena in Great Falls.
