It has now come down to the final four teams in the 8-man football playoffs. And the Fort Benton Longhorns are one of those teams. Now, the Longhorns will be looking to keep their run going as they head on the road this Saturday to face Fairview in a semifinal matchup.
The Fort Benton Longhorns have had a great season this fall with a record of 8-2. They have won three straight games heading into this weekend, including their playoff wins over Lone Peak and Superior. During that stretch, the Longhorns have averaged 46 points a game.
But Fairview will be a tough obstacle between the Longhorns and a spot in the state title game. The Warriors are the Eastern No. 1 seed with a 10-0 record so far this fall. The Fairview offense has been electric, averaging 55.8 points a contest this season. The Warriors are no slouch on defense either, only allowing 14.4 points a game this year.
If the Longhorns are able to upset Fairview this weekend, they would face either Ennis or Belt in the state championship game. Ennis is the Central No. 1 seed in the bracket with an 11-0 record. Meanwhile, Belt is the Northern No. 1 seed with a record of 7-1 this year. But Fort Benton will have to defeat Fairview first if it wants a shot against either of these squads.
The Fort Benton 8-man football team will play Fairview on the road Saturday at 1 p.m.
