Lights shut down by Montana Tech

With the regular season soon coming to a close, the Montana State University-Northern football team is looking to find its stride. But at Tilleman Field this past Saturday, the Lights could not get hot as they lost, 28-0, to Montana Tech.

In the first quarter, the Orediggers got their offense going to take the lead. Quarterback Blake Thelen got rolling with a couple completions, including an 18-yard touchdown throw to Kaleb Winterburn to give Tech a 7-0 lead.

Later in the second quarter, the Orediggers put together another scoring drive. Thelen continued to play well as he threw a 19-yard touchdown to Wyatt Alexander to push the lead to 14-0 early in the quarter.

The Lights held the Orediggers scoreless for the rest of the half, but Tech eventually got back on track in the third quarter. Thanks to the running game led by Winterburn, the Orediggers moved down the field to the MSU-N one-yard line. Winterburn then carried it in for the score to make it a 21-0 game.

In the fourth quarter, the Orediggers got a 35-yard rushing touchdown from Ethan Renner to make it 28-0. The Lights were unable to put together a scoring drive as they finished with zero points for the second straight week. The Lights finished the contest with 97 total yards of offense, with zero yards on the ground.

The Lights now drop to 1-8 this year with an 0-7 record in the Frontier Conference. The MSU-N football team will finish the regular season with a game against Rocky Mountain College in Billings this Saturday at 1 p.m.
