After shutting out Lockwood to open the postseason, the Havre High football team will have a tougher matchup when it heads on the road to face Dillon this Saturday afternoon. With a spot in the semifinals on the line, the Blue Ponies will need to play their best ball of the season against Dillon Beavers.
The Beavers enter the game with an 8-0 record that secured them the Western No. 1 seed and a bye to start the postseason. The Beavers rolled through the regular season as they averaged 38.9 points a game on offense. And their defense shut down opponents as they only allowed 8.2 points a game.
The Ponies enter the game with a 7-3 record and they are coming off a 38-0 win over Lockwood to open the postseason. If the Ponies want to get the upset on the road, their offense will need to come alive against the Beavers. Quarterback Griffin Terry will need to keep playing well as he has completed 53.7 percent of his passes for 895 yards, six touchdowns and two interceptions.
Terry will need to connect with his playmakers in order to get the offense going. Tre Gary is the leading receiver for Havre as he leads the team with 33 catches, 506 yards and four touchdowns this season. Jacob Herring should also factor into the passing game as he has 29 receptions for 325 yards and one score this year.
But the strength of the Ponies this year has always been their ground game, so they will be looking to get the rushing attack going again this Saturday. Running back Tate Nelson will be looking to continue his stellar season as he has 917 yards and 12 touchdowns on 4.9 yards a carry this fall.
The HHS defense will look for another strong performance as it is allowing 13.4 points a game this season. If the defense can stay stout and the offense can get going, the Ponies should have a shot against the Dillon Beavers.
The HHS football team will play Dillon on the road this Saturday at 1 p.m.
