This past weekend in Fort Benton, the Chester-Joplin-Inverness volleyball team took home the District 7C volleyball championship. The Hawks started their run with a 3-0 win (25-9, 25-13, 25-7) over the Hays-Lodge Pole Thunderbirds to open the tournament.
The Hawks stayed hot in the quarterfinals as they defeated Centerville in five sets (25-17, 25-9, 12-25, 17-25, 15-8). In the semifinals, CJI defeated Fort Benton in three sets (25-22, 25-11, 25-20) to advance to the championship. In the title match, CJI won, 3-1, (22-25, 25-23, 25-19, 25-10) over Centerville to win the district championship.
Many other local schools competed in the District 7C tournament over the weekend. In the opening round, Fort Benton defeated North Star, 3-1 (25-11, 25-14, 24-26, 25-15). In another opening match, Big Sandy won, 3-0, (25-11, 25-18, 25-13) over Box Elder.
After losing to CJI to open the tournament, HLP lost, 3-0, (25-19, 25-8, 25-14) to Highwood in an elimination match. In another loser-out match, North Star defeated Box Elder, 3-0 (25-17, 25-13, 25-18).
After winning its tournament opener, Fort Benton stayed hot with a 3-1 win (17-25, 25-9, 25-22, 25-10) over Big Sandy. The Pioneers were able to stay alive in the tournament with a 3-1 victory (25-21, 26-24, 20-25, 25-22) over Highwood. In another loser-out match, North Star lost, 3-1, (19-25, 25-14, 25-9, 25-20) to Centerville.
In the next loser-out match, Big Sandy suffered a 3-0 loss (25-23, 25-22, 25-23) to Centerville. After losing to CJI in the semifinals, Fort Benton lost to Centerville, 3-1, (25-22, 25-17, 23-25, 25-20) to finish third in the tournament.
Over the weekend, several other Hi-Line schools began the postseason with district tournaments. In the District 1B Tournament in Fairfield, both Rocky Boy and Chinook competed.
The Chinook Sugarbeeters opened the tournament with a 3-1 loss (25-22, 25-18, 22-25, 25-20) to Shelby. Then in an elimination match, Chinook lost, 3-1, (21-25, 25-13, 28-26, 25-21) to Choteau.
Rocky Boy also went 0-2 in the 1B Tournament. In the opener, Rocky Boy lost, 3-0, (25-5, 25-10, 25-5) to Conrad. Then in the loser-out match, Rocky Boy suffered a 3-0 loss (25-16, 25-11, 25-7) to Cut Bank.
The Harlem Wildcats also opened the postseason with the District 2B Tournament in Glasgow this past weekend. However, Harlem opened the tournament with a 3-0 loss (25-11, 25-16, 25-17) to Glasgow. Then in a loser-out match, Harlem lost, 3-0, (25-8, 25-20, 25-21) to Malta.
