The playoffs are here and the Havre High football team got to begin them at home at Blue Pony Stadium this past Friday night. And in front of their home fans, the Blue Ponies dominated in a 38-0 win over Lockwood to advance to the quarterfinals.
The Ponies got rolling early as a five-yard touchdown run from Trayden Riley gave them a 7-0 lead late in the first quarter. The Ponies kept it going to start the second quarter as Tate Nelson ran it in for a one-yard score to push the lead to 13-0.
Later in the half after a Lockwood fumble, Nelson continued to roll with a one-yard touchdown run. Griffin Terry then connected with Jacob Herring for the two-point conversion to make it a 21-0 game. Before halftime, Nelson scored his third touchdown of the night with a four-yard run that gave Havre a 28-0 lead.
Even with the big lead, the Ponies added onto their lead in the second half. In the third quarter, Ty Golie knocked down a 26-yard field goal to push the lead to 31-0. The Ponies then capped off the third quarter with an 80-yard touchdown throw from Terry to Rhett Wertheimer.
With Havre's 38-0 lead, the Lions had little chance to come back in the fourth. Even then, the Ponies continued to play well on defense to complete the shutout of the Lions and advance to the quarterfinals.
The HHS football team will continue the playoffs against Dillon on the road this Saturday at 1 p.m.
