MSU-N volleyball ready for tough conference matches

With the regular season soon coming to a close, the Montana State University-Northern volleyball team will look to end on a high note. The Skylights will have a chance to find some momentum as they face Montana Tech tonight at Armory Gymnasium and then head on the road to play the University of Providence this Saturday.

The Skylights will face Montana Tech tonight at home. The Orediggers come to the Hi-Line hot with a 19-3 overall record and a 5-1 record in the Frontier Conference. Earlier this season, Tech beat MSU-N, 3-1, in the preseason tournament and then defeated the Skylights, 3-1, last month in Butte.

The Orediggers have several players that can lead them to victory. Maureen Jessop has been excellent this season leading the team with 286 total kills. Olivia Labeau is also playing well with 74 total blocks and Jelena Jablanov is playing good defense with 327 total digs.

The Skylights will then head down to Great Falls to face the University of Providence Saturday. The Argonauts stand fourth in the Frontier Conference with a 4-2 conference record and a 12-9 overall record. Northern defeated Providence, 3-0, in the preseason tournament but then lost, 3-2, to the Argonauts at home last month.

The Argonauts have some good players that can give the Skylights some trouble. Nina Janjic is having a good year with 240 total kills. Other playmakers for the Argonauts include Zoe Naugle with 74 total blocks and Taylor Christensen with 392 total digs.

The Skylights head into these matches with a 9-12 overall record and a 1-5 conference record. If the Skylights want to get some wins this weekend, their best players will have to play well.

Alana Graves is having a good year leading the Skylights with 246 total kills and 52 total kills. The Skylights will also need other players to make an impact such as Emily Feller with her 509 total assists and Baily Egan with 399 total digs this winter. If these players have a strong weekend, the Skylights should have a chance.

The Northern volleyball team will play Montana Tech at Armory Gymnasium tonight at 7 p.m. The Skylights will then play the University of Providence in Great Falls Saturday at 6 p.m.
