Postseason high school football is finally here as the Havre High football team will host Lockwood at Blue Pony Stadium Friday night. As the Lions come into town, the Blue Ponies look for a win that they hope can be the start of a deep postseason run.
The Lockwood Lions clinched a postseason berth after going 5-4 in the regular season. However, the Lions finished the year with two straight losses to Billings Central and Laurel. The Lions will also be looking to avenge an 11-9 loss to Havre at home during the regular season.
The Ponies head into the postseason with a 6-3 record and a two-game winning streak. In those two victories over Sidney and Lewistown, the HHS defense held its opponents to 7 points a game.
The Ponies will also look to get their offense rolling this weekend, especially after only recording 11 points and 192 total yards against Lockwood in their regular-season meeting. Quarterback Griffin Terry, who has started the last four games for the Ponies, will look to lead the offense to success this Friday.
In his playing time this year, Terry is completing 55.3 percent of his throws for 683 yards, five touchdowns and one interception. He will look to rely on playmakers such as Tre Gary, who has 31 catches for 442 yards and four touchdowns this season.
The Ponies will also look to get their ground game going, which has been their strength throughout the season. Tate Nelson has led the rushing attack with his 763 yards and nine touchdowns on 4.8 yards a carry this fall. If Nelson and the offense can get going, and if the HHS defense can stay strong, the Ponies should have a good chance to advance in the postseason.
The HHS football team will play Lockwood at Blue Pony Stadium Friday at 7 p.m.
