Speech judging clinic set for Wednesday

Havre team still looking for judges for Saturday

Press release

Havre High School speech and debate has set a judging clinic for Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the high school library for people interested in judging for the Havre invitational tournament Saturday.

Havre head coach Tim Leeds said the coaching staff will answer any questions at the clinic and help people review the process and ballots used at the tournament.

Leeds said conflicts and illnesses have arisen that have left the tournament short some judges, as well as losing contact with some regular judges.

“We have a great judging pool, but we always are looking for more,”  Leeds said. “We also have lost touch with some as they retire or change jobs or change phone numbers or emails.

“A lot of people really enjoy the judging,” Leeds added. “We hope we can bring some people in who have not judged for us before, including people who maybe have never judged before.”

Leeds said the tournament has a variety of events, including speaking events and acting events including mime. He said it ranges from comic to serious literature and drama, memorized prepared speeches in a variety of styles and even impromptu speaking where the students have three minutes to prepare a speech on a topic just given.

Leeds said people can contact him at 406-552-9023 or email [email protected] for more information or to sign up, or they can use an online form at https:bit.ly/HavreSpeech2023 .

He said they also are welcome just to show up at the high school library at 7 p.m. to learn more.
