This past Friday in Livingston, the Havre High cross country teams began the postseason with the Eastern A Classic. In their first competition of the postseason, the HHS girls team took third in its meet while the HHS boys team finished fifth.
The HHS girls team scored 93 total points to finish third in its meet. Hardin won the girls meet with 19 total points while Miles City took second in the meet. Many Blue Ponies ran well Friday to lead the girls team to a third-place finish.
Ashlyn Ford had a strong start to the postseason as she finished fourth with a time of 20:10.28. Hailey Gingery also ran well for the Ponies as she took 17th with a time of 21:50.44. Fellow Pony Clara Haslem finished 22nd with a time of 22:13.15 and her teammate Paige Anderson took 25th with a time of 22:35.74. Rounding out the race for the Ponies were Gracie Shandorf in 29th place, Sarach Bachmeier in 32nd and Ariel Ost in 50th.
The HHS boys scored 141 total points to take fifth in its meet. Laurel won the boys meet with 64 total points while Hardin finished second and Livingston took third. Several Ponies ran well for the boys team Friday.
Caleb Tomac finished third for the Ponies as he recorded a time of 16:16.70. Mason Gregoire ran well with a time of 17:59.77 to take 17th and Zack May posted a time of 18:27.90 to finish 25th. Behind them were Cesar Lara in 44th, Brayden Nimmick in 55th, Koby Preputin in 63rd and Eric Messinger in 68th.
The best runners from the Eastern A Classic will now advance to the state meet to finish off the season. The MHSA State Cross Country Championship will take place this Saturday in Kalispell.
