Havre volleyball goes 0-2 over weekend

Over the weekend, the Havre High volleyball team played in a pair of competitive matches against Glendive and Billings Central. The Blue Ponies played well but lost, 3-2, (17-25, 23-25, 25-23, 25-19, 15-13) to Glendive at home Friday. The Ponies then lost, 3-2, (25-22, 18-25, 20-25, 25-19, 15-10) to Billings Central on the road Saturday.

The Ponies started the weekend against Glendive Friday night at Havre High Gymnasium. After a 14-14 tie to start the first set, the Ponies went on an 11-3 run to win, 25-17, for a 1-0 lead in the match.

The Ponies and Red Devils then found themselves in a competitive second set that saw the teams exchange points. With the game tied, 22-22, the Ponies scored two straight points to take the lead. After a Glendive score, Havre scored to win, 25-23, to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

Just like the previous set, the Ponies and Devils went back and forth throughout the third set. But with the game tied, 23-23, it was the Devils who finished strong to win it, 25-23, to extend the match to a fourth set.

The Devils then took control in the fourth set. After only leading 12-9, the Devils got on a roll to stretch their lead to 24-16. The Ponies responded with three straight points, but Glendive scored to win, 25-19, to tie the match, 2-2.

With the match on the line in the fifth set, the Ponies and the Devils went back and forth until the game was tied, 13-13. The Devils then scored two straight points to win, 15-13, to win the match and complete the comeback.

After losing the thriller against Glendive the previous night, the Ponies found themselves in another battle on the road against Billings Central Saturday. Throughout the first set, the Ponies and Rams went back and forth to force a 22-22 stalemate. The Rams then grabbed momentum to win, 25-22, for a 1-0 lead in the match.

Looking to respond, the Ponies raced out to a 6-1 lead to start the second set. But the Devils came back to tie it, 12-12. The Ponies responded with a run of their own to take a 20-18 lead. The Ponies then ended it with a 5-0 run to win, 25-18, to tie the match, 1-1.

The third set saw the Ponies and Rams battle it out to a 16-16 stalemate. The Ponies then went on a 4-0 run to take a 20-16 lead. The Rams tried to respond, but Havre finished it off to win, 25-20, for a 2-1 lead on the night.

Just like the previous sets, the Ponies and Rams went back and forth in the fourth. But with the game tied, 19-19, the Rams ended it with a 6-0 run to win, 25-19, to tie the match and force a fifth set.

In the fifth set, it remained anyone's match. Again, the Ponies and Rams battled until it was tied, 9-9. However, the Rams went on a 5-1 run to win, 15-10, to win the match in five sets.

With the two losses over the weekend, the Ponies dropped to 9-3 on the season and 5-1 in conference play. The HHS volleyball team will next compete in Blocktoberfest in Butte this weekend.
