Blue Ponies unable to slow down Laurel

With the season soon coming to a close, the Havre High football team will be looking to end the regular season strong. But on the road against Laurel Friday night, the Blue Ponies suffered a 30-17 loss to the Laurel Locomotives.

Laurel took the lead in the first quarter thanks to a 30-yard field goal from Owen Adams. However, the Ponies responded with a 69-yard touchdown on a punt return to take a 7-3 lead.

The Locomotives responded in the second quarter when Tanner Schwend threw a seven-yard touchdown pass to Isaiah Burt. The Ponies responded with a field goal to tie the game, but the Locomotives remained hot. Before halftime, Schwend completed a 41-pass to Kade Wersland for a touchdown and a 17-10 lead.

In the third quarter, Schwend threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Cam McAllister to increase the lead to 24-10. Later in the third, Schwend carried it in himself for a one-yard touchdown run to make it a 30-10 game.

The Ponies responded in the fourth quarter with a three-yard touchdown run from Tate Nelson, but that was all they could muster as the Locomotives went on to win. With the loss, the Ponies are now 4-3 this season with just two more games before the postseason.

The HHS football team will next play Sidney at Blue Pony Stadium this Friday at 7 p.m.
