Blue Ponies face road test at Laurel

With just a third of its regular season remaining, the Havre High football team will look to finish strong and create some momentum for a possible postseason run. Tonight, the Blue Ponies begin the final third of the year with a road game against the Laurel Locomotives.

The Laurel Locomotives will be a tough foe as they are off to a 4-2 start this season. Along with a strong offensive output, the Laurel defense is playing well, only allowing 13.1 points a game.

The Ponies head into the game with a 4-2 record and they are riding a two-game winning streak heading into the matchup. The Havre defense is also playing well, allowing 15 points a contest this fall. But if the Ponies want to pick up a win on the road tonight, the offense will need to get on a roll.

The Ponies have a pair of quarterbacks who they can turn to tonight. Ciaran Courtnage has started most of the games this year behind center, where he has completed 56.2 percent of his throws for 707 yards, seven touchdowns and four interceptions. But Griffin Terry got the start last week against East Helena, where he went 10-for-16 for 126 yards and two touchdowns in the win.

Regardless of who the quarterback is, the Ponies' playmakers will need to step up. Carson Harris has been a reliable receiver this year with 12 catches for 165 yards and two touchdown receptions. On the ground, Tate Nelson has led the offense with 627 yards and six touchdowns on 5.4 yards a carry.

After facing Laurel, the Ponies will then face Sidney and Lewistown to wrap up the regular season. With time running out on the year, the Ponies will be looking to pick up another win tonight to put themselves in the best position for the postseason.

The HHS football team will play at Laurel tonight at 7 p.m.
