This past weekend in Dillon, the Montana State University-Nothern rodeo teams wrapped up the fall portion of their season with a rodeo hosted by Montana Western. In their final rodeos of 2023, the MSU-N women's team took first place while the MSU-N men's team finished sixth.
The Skylights won their rodeo with 475 total points. The University of Montana came in second while Miles Community College took third. Over the weekend, several Skylights performed well to lead the team to victory.
Mikenna Schauer took first in women's all-around with 340 total points in the rodeo. She took first in breakaway roping with a time of 5.1 and she took first in goat tying with a time of 14.1. Her teammate Olivia Parsonage finished fourth in breakaway roping with a time of 2.4 while fellow Skylight Kenda Statham finished second in goat tying with a time of 14.4.
The MSU-N men's team scored 140 total points to finish sixth in its rodeo. Montana Western won the men's rodeo with 885 total points while Montana State University took second and Northwest College came in third.
Garrett Cunningham had a strong showing for the Lights as he finished second in saddle bronc riding with a score of 140. His teammate Miles Gravely tied for seventh in saddle bronc riding. Ethan Frasier took fourth in bareback riding while Chance Story took fourth in steer wrestling with a time of 10.8.
The MSU-N rodeo teams will now head into their midseason break and will return to compete in 2024. The Northern rodeo teams will next compete in a rodeo in Bozeman hosted by MSU starting Apr. 11.
