News you can use
It’s that time of year, time to say goodbye to golf season. For me, this will be weird goodbye considering I didn’t step foot on a golf course in Havre this entire season. But, I still enjoyed reporting on the local golf season, and I hope this column was as informative as it’s always been.
As always, here are some big thank-you’s. Thank you to league secretaries for getting me golf results all year. Thank you to the local golf courses, Prairie Farms and Beaver Creek Golf Course for doing all you do to make local golf so much fun, and so great each and every season.
And lastly, thank you to my readers, and to all our local golfers. Without you, there is no reason for this column.
Finally, on a personal note, I want to say, I miss you all. Golfing in Havre has been such a huge part of my life for nearly 30 years, and while I knew I would miss it, I didn’t know I’d miss it as much as I did.
Make no mistake, I’ve enjoyed myself this golf season, and folks tell me the season is nowhere near over in Denver, as fall golf is supposedly the best. And there is no question, the Denver Metro is a golfer’s paradise, with so many great courses to choose from.
Having said that, I did indeed miss Havre golf. I missed playing golf with my friends, I missed league golf and tournaments, and just the camaraderie that goes with it all. I missed coaching golf and in general, just being a part of the local golf scene.
I know time marches on, and local golf went on, and will continue to go on without me. And I, too, will go on and enjoy golf here in my new home. But neither of those facts means there won’t always be a special place in my heart for golfing in my hometown.
Now with that out of the way, have a great offseason everybody, and I plan to be back with this column next spring!
