With just four games left in the regular season, the Havre High football team is looking to find its stride. At Blue Pony Stadium this past Friday, it looks like the Blue Ponies are finding that rhythm as they defeated East Helena, 41-6, in their homecoming game.
On their very first drive of the game, the Ponies worked their way down to the East Helena 27-yard line. Quarterback Griffin Terry then connected with Tre Gary for a touchdown to give Havre a 7-0 lead.
After an East Helena interception, the Ponies pushed the lead to 14-0 thanks to a one-yard touchdown run from Tate Nelson. After another defensive stop, the Ponies blocked the punt and scooped up the ball for a touchdown to make it a 21-0 game late in the first quarter.
Early in the second quarter, the Vigilantes finally responded when Jack Taylor connected with Taylor Kopp for a deep touchdown pass to cut the deficit to 21-7. But the Ponies responded with a touchdown throw from Terry to Colter Solomon. The Ponies then scored another touchdown to make it a 34-6 lead heading into halftime.
In the third quarter, the Ponies blocked another punt and once again returned it for a touchdown to make it a 41-6 lead. The Havre defense then shut out the Vigilantes the rest of the way to secure the victory.
East Helena is now 2-4 on the season while the Ponies improved their record to 4-2 this year. The Ponies now have a 1-1 conference record and a 3-0 record at home. The HHS football team will next play on the road against Laurel this Friday at 7 p.m.
