Elementary students celebrate their art in Pepin Park

Lincoln-McKinley Primary School students helped decorate Pepin Park's bathrooms this month with local artist Madison Ruff, and the students gathered at Pepin Park to admire the finished product and enjoyed a well-deserved ice cream treat Monday afternoon.

Sponsors for the ice cream event were Stockman Bank, Gary & Leo's Fresh Foods, McLean's Grocery Store and Hill County Printing. Stockman Bank provided the money supplied to run the event. Gary & Leo's donated bowls, spoons, and chocolate and strawberry syrup toppings. McLean's Grocery provided the ice cream, and Hill County Printing made the signage.

Madison Ruff supplied the paint and art supplies to put the creation together.

Lincoln-McKinley Principal Holly Bitz helped serve ice cream Monday.

"We were super excited when (Havre Parks and Recreation Director) Chris (Inman) called us this summer to see if we would like to be part of this beautification process in Pepin Park," Bitz said. "Just for our students to have that chance to make their environment a lot better-looking. It was exciting. They came over for about a day and a half and helped put up the background, and put the fish on it."

The background theme depicts native Montana fish and the streams

they swim in. Some of the fish painted were rainbow trout and walleye. Lincoln-McKinley P.E. teacher Trevor VanCampen brought the students over during classes to help decorate the building.

Havre Stockman Bank President and Branch Manager Kaare Engebretson also helped served ice cream with the help of Charlie O'Donnell of McLean's Grocery.

"When we were approached by Chris to help out with this, we were very happy to pitch in and support this event and what she is trying to do with beautifying the parks and the area," Engebretson said.

Inman said she looks forward to future projects with plans in the making for next summer.

"Havre is probably one of the most fantastic places you could live," she said. "If somebody needs help doing something, they step right in. When we do fundraisers for people that are sick, we can raise $30,000 to $40,000 in an afternoon. That says a lot about our community. So, this is just a little bit to give back to everybody.

"Next will be the Optimist Park bathrooms, then we are going to head down to Eagles Park and do the bathrooms there," she added. "Then up to Patterson Park to do the bathrooms there."
