Conference play has finally arrived for the Montana State University-Northern volleyball team. After about a month of non-conference matches, the Skylights will host Montana Western for a Frontier Conference match tonight at Armory Gymnasium.
The Bulldogs will be a tough opponent to open conference play as they just went 13-1 in non-conference play. Through their first month of the season, several Bulldogs have played well to lead the team to success.
Jazi Smith has played well on offense as she leads her team with 155 total kills and is averaging 2.87 kills a set this season. Danyel Martin has also played with 57 total blocks and 100 total kills this season.
Kelsey Goddard should provide some strong defense for the Bulldogs as she leads the team with 267 total digs. Kaylee Fritz is another player that should give the Skylights trouble as she leads the Bulldogs with 15 total aces and 310 total assists this fall.
The Skylights head into their conference opener with an 8-7 record. Just this past weekend in the Preseason Frontier Conference Tournament, the Skylights went 2-2 against their conference rivals. As they look to start conference play on the right foot, they will need their best players to put on a show.
Alana Graves will look to continue her strong start to the season as she has 169 total kills and 36 total blocks this fall. Emily Feller will look to make an impact as she leads the Skylights with 373 total assists this season. Baily Egan should be a factor this weekend as she leads the Skylights with 269 total digs this year.
Last season, the Skylights went 3-6 in the Frontier Conference. But against the Bulldogs last fall, the Skylights went 1-1. If the Skylights want to compete in the Frontier Conference this fall, they will need to play well against the Bulldogs tonight.
The MSU-N volleyball team will play Montana Western at Armory Gymnasium tonight at 7 p.m.
