Obituary - Stacie Haas

Stacie Haas of Missoula, formerly of Havre, 61, passed away the evening of September 10, 2023, surrounded by her children. She is now at peace, and finally reunited with her sister, her mother, and her father.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, October 6, 2023, at Garden City Funeral Home, 1705 W. Broadway St., Missoula, Montana.

Stacie was born June 11, 1962, in Salina, Kansas, the youngest of five, to Sanford Lee Collins and Hazel Deanna Turcotte.

Stacie attended Colton High School, where she played the flute and piccolo in the marching band, performing at the Rose Parade and a San Diego Chargers halftime show. She graduated in 1980 and went on to graduate from San Diego State University in 1986 with a nursing degree (Go Aztecs!) Following graduation, she moved to Oregon to begin her nursing career, and then to Havre shortly after.

She took great pride in being a nurse, working for 25 years in Havre, in the Health Department and Northern Montana Hospital. Her time spent working in the ICU, dialysis, and in nursing education brought her many greatly valued friendships. Those friendships, though affected by time, distance, and life, remain strong today and will live on in the community of support that Stacie has left for her children and friends.

Stacie met Tom Haas in 1986 and they married in 1988. They welcomed three children, Amanda Marie in 1989, Taylor Kate in 1993, and Dustin Jacob in 1998. Stacie's passion for nursing sparked the same in her daughter Amanda, who has spent the last 10 years caring for babies as an RN in the NICU. Taylor was always quick to join her mom in kitchen, helping make all of the recipes her kids know and love, and Taylor is continuing that tradition in her own home. Stacie's son Dustin inherited her love and talent for music, performing in many vocal ensembles and continues to foster his passion for music (especially through his mom's old vinyl records). Though she only had three children, she was a second mom to so many of her children's friends whom she loved immensely. 

Stacie moved to Missoula in 2011. She began working in nursing education at Community Medical Center and later became a Workman's Compensation Nurse Case Manager. Life in Missoula brought many wonderful people into Stacie's life, including James "Rich" Damron, who she had the privilege and joy of spending almost 10 years with before her passing. Rich and Stacie traveled as often as they could, favoring Quinn's Hot Springs and the Lodge at Whitefish Lake. Stacie even brought Rich aboard the I-Love-Hawaii train, her happy place, as anyone that knew her would know.

In June of 2019, two weeks after her birthday and one week after her daughter's birthday, she was awarded the title of Mimi, through the birth of her grandson, Enzo Luis. Enzo was a shining light in her life, and she loved him with every piece of herself.

Stacie will be remembered as a daughter, sister, mother, second mother, Mimi, and friend. We will be reminded of her every time we turn on "The Sound of Music," singing along with every word; every time we tune in to the Food Network; every time we drink a Caesar during brunch or game-day festivities; every crisp drink of Diet Coke; every visit to Hawaii (or longing look at pictures of the islands); and every time we look at our loved ones, see the people she loved with her whole being, and remember the joy her life brought to each of us.

Stacie is preceded in death by her sister Kathryn; her mother, Deanna, and her father, Sandy.

She is survived by her children, Amanda of Missoula, Taylor (Chris) and grandson Enzo of Missoula, Dustin (Rawnie) of Havre, brother Mike (Filo) of Long Beach, CA; sister Terri of McMinnville, OR, brother Steve (Patti) of Grand Terrace, CA, and beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.
