William "Bill" Weyh - no one called him Willliam - was born April 26, 1946, and left us June 15, 2023.
He was born in Havre, MT, to Herman and Esther Weyh, the sixth out of six kids, and the only boy. Pretty sure he was spoiled.
He grew up enjoying school sports, particularly football and basketball with the Fighting Blue Ponies, and the outdoors, hunting and fishing in the fertile areas surrounding Havre including the Bears Paw Mountains.
After graduating high school in 1964, Bill attended Northern for a brief time and enlisted in the National Guard. While living in Whitefish in the late '60s he was married to Charlene Lytle and worked at the Aluminum Plant in Columbia Falls. They had one son, Jeff. Bill moved back to Havre in the early '70s and eventually ended up working for BNSF, starting in the Diesel Shop and eventually holding the title of engineer for many years, even earning the title of Engineer of the Year by the United Transportation Union in 2006.
Bill became a diehard Steelers fan in the '60s and remained loyal to his team his whole life, making two pilgrimages to Heinz Field to see them, and even one trip to Tampa to see them beat the Buccaneers. He was also a diehard Braves fan and was stoked to see them win their latest World Series.
In 2010, Bill finally got his wish he had for years, his first grandchild. His second came along in 2012 and his grandkids were his favorites, period. He loved spending time with them in his retirement, picking them up from school, on holidays, and whenever, just for the heck of it.
Bill is survived by his son, Jeff Weyh; grandkids, James and Cora Weyh; sisters Lori Ward and Dorothy Foster; many nieces and nephews, and countless dozens of friends, most of them being counted and loved as extended family.
He was a kind soul and loved to help and enjoy anyone when he could, with support, a friendly word or an afternoon drink. So much more can be written, but we all know how special he was. He will be missed by many.
A get-together to have a toast, swap stories and celebrate him will take place at the Palace Bar Saturday, Oct. 14 at 3 p.m.
