Skylights play well in North Dakota

As the preseason continues on, the Montana State University-Northern volleyball team continues to get better, as the Skylights went 2-1 at last weekend's Frontier-North Star Challenge in North Dakota.

The Skylights beat Dickinson State University on Friday evening in Valley City, North Dakota. The MSU-Northern Skylights won in three sets (25-16, 25-20, and 28-26).

Dickinson State took the lead early in the first set. The Skylights went on an 11-1 run to take the lead and helped them push to take the set. The Hawks had a good start to the second set going up 12-7. The Skylights went on a 5-0 run to tie the game back up. The momentum for Northern followed through the rest of the game, as they won their second set. The third set was a battle until the end. The Skylights held on to win the third set to win the match.

The Skylights were led by Alana Graves who had 16 kills with a .387 percentage. Lexa Stock added eight kills. Emily Feller led the team in assists with 37. Macee Murphy led the team in digs with 18.

The Hawks were led by Madi Wahl with 11 kills with a .194 percent. Tylee Kogolshak led the team in assists with 14. Taylor Fischer led the team in digs with 17.

On Saturday, the Skylights went 1-1 against Valley City State University and University of Winnipeg. The Skylights lost against Valley City in three (25-22, 25-17, 26-24). They won in three against University of Winnipeg (25-23, 25-19, and 25-16).

Against Valley City State, the Skylights were led by Alana Graves who had 12 kills with a .200 percentage. Lexa Stock had 6 kills with a percent of .545. Emily Feller led the team with assists with 25 and added seven kills. Bailey Egan and Macee Murphy led the team in digs with 11 each.

Against the University of Winnipeg, the Skylights were led by Alana Graves who had 11 kills with a .421 percentage. Jessalyn Chvilivek added 11 kills. Emily Feller led the team with assists with 16. Bailey Egan led the team in digs with 16.

The Vikings were led by Nelson, Hagler, and Scutchings with 11 kills each and above a .200 percentage. Sadie Hansen led the team in assists and digs with 34 and 11.

The Wesmen were led by Katya and Ella who each had seven kills. Ella Webiski led the team in digs with 14. Naomi Unger led the team in assists with 23 and added 10 digs.

The Skylights are 6-5 on the season.

The Skylights will be on the road to play in the Preseason Frontier Conference Tournament in Dillon Montana. The Skylights play Carroll College at 9 a.m. and Montana Tech at 4 p.m. on September 15. They will play September 16 against University of Providence at 9 a.m. and Rocky Mountain College at 4 p.m.
