Havre volleyball looks to stay hot this weekend

The Havre High volleyball team is off to a hot start this season and it will look to continue that this weekend with another pair of matches. The Blue Ponies start the weekend on Friday night with a road match against Glendive. They will then return home to HHS Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon to face Hardin. As the Ponies head into this weekend slate, HHS head coach Cassie Krueger hopes to see more improvement from her team.

"My expectations for this weekend are to find a more aggressive offense on our half and work on our serve-receive a little bit," Krueger said.

The Ponies start the weekend on the road Friday night with a match against Glendive. Earlier this year at the tip-off tournament, the Ponies defeated Glendive in both sets. However, Krueger expects Glendive to give the Ponies a battle.

"They're a good team," Krueger said. "They're very scrappy and we just can't go into the match underestimating them."

The match against Glendive will serve as the Ponies' first conference match of the season in the Northeast A. The Ponies dominated the Northeast A last year, so Krueger is excited to see how the Ponies fare in conference play to start this fall.

"I'm very much looking forward to it," Krueger said. "I think the girls have big goals and starting the conference season will definitely start outlining where their goals are aligned."

The Ponies will then host the Hardin Bulldogs at HHS Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon. Earlier this season, the Ponies and Bulldogs split a two-set match, so Krueger knows they will have their hands full on Saturday.

"Hardin is a very good offensive team and their blocking is pretty impressive," Krueger said. "We need to go in and be very creative and aggressive with our offense."

The Ponies are off to a 2-0 start after defeating both Browning and East Helena in three sets last weekend. Over the course of last weekend, players such as Kyanna Jarvis and Ariana Gary made an impact for the Ponies. As Havre heads into this weekend, Krueger hopes that the Ponies can continue to excel in several areas of the game.

"We had an amazing serve game. I would like to carry that over," Krueger said. "If we can get consistent with our offense, I would like to carry that over as well."

The HHS volleyball team will play Glendive on the road this Friday at 5 p.m. The Ponies will then host Hardin at HHS Gymnasium on Saturday at 4 p.m.
