Skylights host Medicine Hat Friday in a scrimmage

The Montana State University-Northern volleyball team had a long, but successful road trip last weekend to Arizona. But with Frontier Conference play a mere three weeks away, there's no time to rest.

Northern sits at 3-4 on the young season, and the Skylights will take a quick break from non-league play when they host Medicine Hat College for a scrimmage Friday night at the Armory Gymnasium. And while the match doesn't count towards Northern's overall record, it's another chance for the Skylights to just get better.

But make no mistake, the Skylights have been pretty good thus far.

Veterans Alana Graves, Alyssa Pretty Weasel and former Havre Blue Pony Jessa Chvilicek have all been really good offensively for head coach Kerry Wagner's club, while Emily Feller and Bailey Egan have been setting the offense up.

On the defensive side of the net, Egan has been a stalwart as well, while up front, Maddison Underdal is off to a strong start blocking.

All-in-all, the Skylights have been playing really good volleyball so far this season, but, Wagner also knows his team has plenty of room to grow, and Northern's schedule allows for that.

Next weekend, MSU-N will travel to Valley City, North Dakota for four matches against the North Star Athletic Conferencer, before the Skylights come back to Montana to close out non-conference play with the Frontier Preseason Tournament Sept. 15-16 in Dillon. The Skylights then make their conference debut on Sept. 22 when they host the Montana Western Bulldogs. First though, MSU-N will host Medicine Hate College Friday at 7 p.m. in a scrimmage at the Armory Gymnasium.
